deTour 2024 pushes the understanding of design beyond mere problem-solving. From Erich Fromm’s concept of the “mode of having” to the “mode of being”, it is a journey set forth to review five elements nurturing the inner growth of people namely introspection, creative expression, learning, relationships and community. The exhibition design conceived by Napp Studio & Architects intends to translate these elements into various systems that formulate the entire infrastructure and experience.

The entrance backdrop displays curatorial information but also functions as a tunnel that leads visitors into the world of introspection and frames the first piece of artwork.

The reception table with continuous stepped seating and table cut out forms various distances between helpers and visitors, generating different relationships among their choices.

The stage backdrop is a magnetic wall that encourages visitors to co-create an abstract magnet mural, celebrating creative expression.

The exhibit panels are shaped like an open book with shelving, allowing artists or exhibitors to showcase their creative process and facilitate learning.

Reconfigurable tetris-like benches could be randomly or purposefully set up. The missing corner corresponds to the arrows of the deTour logo but also incites various arrangements and communal interactions.
